The cosine correctors are spectroradiometric sampling optics, designed to collect radiation (light) over 180°, thus eliminating optical interface problems associated with the light collection sampling geometry inherent to other sampling devices.
Special cosine correctors are available, such as the 8mm active area (CC-UV/VIS/NIR-8MM) and a cosine corrector with 5° angular field of view for solar measurement applications (CC-UV/VIS/NIR-5.0).
Solar monitoring can be achieved using a spectroradiometer solution from Avantes like the AvaSolar system which is a 4 channel system with two redundant systems each measuring from 200-2500nm. One of the systems measures the direct sun radiation through the CC-UV/VIS/NIR-5.0 cosine corrector with a 5 degrees acceptance aperture and is normally affixed to a sun tracker system. The second spectrometer system in the solar setup measures total radiation (flux) with a standard CC-VIS/NIR cosine corrector.
