Corning Helps Bankroll NZ OptoCeramic Research
In an extension of an existing collaborative business agreement, fiber optic manufacturer Corning Inc. (Corning, NY) is making an equity investment in photonic packaging specialist NZ Applied Technologies Corporation (Woburn, MA). NZ is applying OptoCeramic device technology to device manufacturing and packaging. Since July 1998, the company has been supplying Corning with evaluation quantities of certain photonic components (see Photonics Week in Review).
Privately held NZAT produces fiberoptic components, including all-solidstate optical isolators, variable attenuators, and switches for dense wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) applications.
