Coherent Introduces High Power Single Frequency OPSLs

Two new Verdi G lasers from Coherent Inc., (Santa Clara, CA) are the first of this product family to offer single longitudinal mode (SLM) output. Specifically, the new Verdi G SLM-Series deliver a linewidth of < 5 MHz, which corresponds to a coherence length of tens of meters. They are offered with a choice of 2 and 5 Watts of output power at 532 nm, with SLM output expected at other wavelengths soon.
Verdi G SLM lasers are based on optically pumped semiconductor laser (OPSL) technology, which is characterized by low noise, high electrical efficiency, and a small platform. Additionally, this construction provides higher stability and greater reliability than other visible laser types. This enables single frequency OPSLs to deliver mode hop-free output over hours of continuous operation.
Verdi G SLM lasers are targeted at applications where narrow linewidth and/or long coherence length are critical requirements. These include various types of interferometry and holography, especially those involving long path lengths. Verdi G SLM lasers are also ideal for atom cooling and trapping, the former, in particular, requiring a laser with narrow linewdith and high output stability.
