Cobolt Twist - A Compact cw DPSS Laser At 457 nm!

Cobolt introduces a new wavelength in its portfolio of compact single-mode DPSS lasers. The Cobolt Twist with up to 50 mW output power at 457 nm provides a compact and power efficient alternative to the 458 nm line from Ar-ion lasers. The laser is well suited for demanding fluorescence applications, e.g. in confocal microscopy, as well as for certain reprographics and display applications.

The Cobolt Twist is a continuous-wave solid-state laser operating at a fixed wavelength of 457 nm and with an output power of up to 50 mW. Built into a hermetically sealed compact package using the proprietary HTCure technology for extreme robustness, the Cobolt Twist is a single-mode laser with low noise (<0.3 % rms), narrow spectral line width (less than 10 MHz) and exceptionally high beam quality (M2<1.1). The Cobolt lasers are based on proprietary PPKTP frequency conversion technology, for optimum flexibility and efficiency. The full system typically consumes less than 25 W of electrical power.

The Cobolt Twist laser provides a compact solid-state alternative to the Ar-ion 457.9 nm line. Combined with the Cobolt Calypso at 491 nm and Cobolt Fandango at 515 nm, Cobolt can now offer a complete solid-state alternative to the multi-line Ar-ion lasers. The Cobolt Twist may also provide a higher beam quality alternative to diode lasers in the 440-450 nm range.

Cobolt now offers a complete range of high performance DPSS lasers to the fluorescence based bioanalytical industry: 457 nm, 473 nm, 491 nm, 515nm, 532 nm, 561 nm, and 594 nm lasers are currently available at output powers from 10 to 300 mW.

The laser is supplied with an ultra-compact controller (CDRH or OEM) which can be remotely accessed for operation and monitoring of the laser system via digital (RS-232) or analog interfaces.

The Cobolt Twist laser will be demonstrated at the BIOS and Photonics West shows Jan 24-29 in San Jose.
