Sarnoff's CMOS Imager design represents a breakthrough in cost and performance. Its dynamic range actually approximates that of film for digital camera applications and allows video scenes to include both highlight and lowlight elements.
Sarnoff's CMOS Imager design represents a breakthrough in cost and performance. Its dynamic range actually approximates that of film for digital camera applications and allows video scenes to include both highlight and lowlight elements. Features include:
- Fixed Pattern Noise (FPN) below visibility
- 110 dB intra-scene dynamic range capability (vs. 50-60 dB for typical CCDs)
- On-chip 12-bit ADC
The sensor has been implemented in a VGA 640 x 480 format. Manufacturing licenses are available. Sarnoff will design custom formats for OEMs or chip suppliers.
