Biophotonic Solutions Introduces First Adaptively Self-Compressed Ultrashort Pulse Laser During Photonics West

Biophotonic Solutions, Inc. (BSI), the world leader in automated pulse compression, is proud to introduce femtoAdaptiv: the first ultrafast laser capable of adaptive pulse self-compression. The system is aimed at the high volume market for oscillators being used for nonlinear optical imaging and will be demonstrated live during the BiOS and Photonics West Exhibitions held in San Francisco, CA from February 2-7, 2013.

Unlike laser systems on the market today that correct for linear chirp using static optics such as prisms mounted on mechanical actuators, the femtoAdaptiv automatically pre-compensates high order dispersion using adaptive optics. By utilizing Biophotonic Solutions' patented MIIPS technology, the femtoAdaptiv can control the output center wavelength (from 650 to 1050 nm) and pulse duration (from 5 to 500 fs) in a matter of milliseconds, without the moving parts of presently available tunable lasers.

Operators can expect order-of-magnitude shorter laser pulses, and therefore brighter images, when the system is used for multiphoton imaging modalities. Furthermore, users will be able to implement the latest imaging techniques such as single-beam CARS and SRS micro-spectroscopy without requiring a second laser. The femtoAdaptiv synergistically combines an ultra-broadband laser oscillator with the disruptive MIIPS automated pulse compression technology.

The femtoAdaptiv raises the true-performance bar in the highly competitive field of ultrafast lasers. True-performance refers to pulse characteristics that a user can expect at the target, as opposed to “out of the box.”

Live demonstrations of the femtoAdaptiv laser system will be held at Booth 8637 during the BIOS Expo and at Booth 5118 during the Photonics West Exhibition.
