Avago Announces High Resolution Encoder For Office And Industrial Applications

Böblingen, Germany Avago Technologies announced the expansion of its series of miniature reflective incremental optical encoders, which are currently the smallest in the industry, with a new high resolution encoder. With dimensions of 3mm length by 3.28mm width by 1.26 mm height, Avago's AEDR-8400-14x reflective surface mount optical encoders are robust and can operate over a wide temperature range making them an ideal choice for use in a variety of office and industrial automation applications. Avago is a leading supplier of analog interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications.
Avago's AEDR-8400-14x series of high resolution optical encoders provide up to 318 lines per inch (LPI) resolution, have two-channel quadrature digital output for directional sensing, and are transistor-transistor logic (TTL) compatible. These high resolution optical encoders also incorporate an LED light source and photo detector IC in a single leadless package, and uses reflective technology to sense rotary or linear position. Moreover, the AEDR-8400-14x encoder can be interfaced directly with most signal processing circuitries to provide design-in flexibility and easy integration into existing systems. The AEDR-8400 series of encoders are an excellent choice for use in miniature motor applications, housed encoders, digital still cameras, scanners, printers, and a wide range of other office and industrial automation applications where space is limited.
Avago's AEDR-8400 series of reflective encoders provide accurate real-time position sensing that's superior to competing encoders in terms of duty, state and phase. They are also insensitive to axial play and maintain performance and accuracy over a wide variation in the gap between sensor and code wheel or strip. The AEDR-8400 series can be used with a reflective code wheel to sense rotary position and velocity, or with a linear code strip to sense linear position and velocity.
With the addition of the AEDR-8400-14x encoder, Avago can now provide designers of office and industrial automation applications with a choice of two miniature reflective optical encoder options. The higher resolution AEDR-8400-14x offers up to 318 LPI while the AEDR-8400-13x offers up to 254 LPI.
