Advanced Photonix to Supply Detectors to Cintel Int'l

Video-conversion system manufacturer Cintel International Ltd. (Ware, UK) has awarded a contract in excess of $250,000 to Advanced Photonix Inc. (Camarillo, CA) for large-area avalanche photodiodes. Cintel produces film-to-video conversion systems for broadcast television, teleproduction, and motion picture markets applications.

Cintel has incorporated the LAAPDs into a redesigned telecine system. Director of market development Graham Barber attributed the switch to LAAPDs from more commonly-used photomultiplier tubes to the robust, low-capacitance, high quantum efficiency, broadband nature of the devices. Thermal stabilization is also simpler for the photodiode technology.

Advanced Photonix produces silicon photodetectors, optoelectronic hybrid assemblies, and LAAPDs for a variety of markets.
