Headquartered in Santa Ana, California,
OptoSigma continues to provide the
photonics industry with the finest laser
grade optics, optical coatings and
hardware to the domestic USA and over 20
international agents. The keys to their
success are global manufacturing,
consistent product performance and
availability, price and delivery, and good
old-fashioned customer service.
OptoSigma is part of the Sigma Koki
Manufacturing Group of seven global
manufacturing facilities. The company’s primary
manufacturing is done in Japan, while
custom design work and global catalog
component distribution is handled from
Santa Ana, CA.
Company History
OptoSigma was founded in 1995 as a
joint venture between several industry veterans
and Japan-based parent company
Sigma Koki. It was founded on the basic
principle of providing the best service and
product value in the industry. The company
began modestly, with its first catalog in 1995
being 152 pages. Today, the 2006-2007 catalog,
the company’s fifth, is over 400 pages,
with over 5000 products. The Santa Ana
facility has the added value of custom thin
film coating manufacturing with Ion-Assist
Deposition and Advanced Plasma Source
Ion-Assist Deposition, which produce
dense, durable and very robust AR and HR
coatings.
OptoSigma optics are fabricated at one
of the seven facilities of Sigma Koki in
Japan. Volume throughput and Japanese
manufacturing techniques provide high
quality, low-cost optics for most catalog and
OEM applications.
OptoSigma Engineering Experts
Sr Mechanical engineer Clayton Summers,
formerly of Melles Griot and Newport
Corp, offers customer support to one who
knows what he wants to achieve, but not
exactly what equipment he needs to
accomplish it. That may mean modification
of an off-the-shelf product, or building a
system together with the customer.
Andrew Clawson, formerly of OCLI -
JDSU, is at the helm of the optical engineering
and coatings departments. He has
design capability, coating capability, and a
fully competent optics-applications engineering background
to offer OptoSigma customers.
An Industry Exclusive
OptoSigma’s “secret weapon” for the
past eight years, is its high-performance
TSD extended contact stages, used for any
precision application, such as positioning
components in a laser path. Made of hardened
tool steel and with very few moving
parts, they are very low-profile, precise and
rugged. The vacuum-compatible TSD
stages, used in ultraclean environments —
are vacuum-ready right out of the box. The
micrometers have no paint — they come
ready to go in vacuum chambers.
OptoSigma’s ‘Specialty’
OptoSigma’s specialty is its custom optical
coatings. Manufactured within a class-1000 cleanroom designed for cleaning,
loading, and inspecting optics both catalog
or customer supplied, all components are
carefully inspected before and after coating.
This environment is virtually particulate-free. High performance coatings from 190
nm to 3 microns are provided in Ion-Assist
Deposition chambers and Advanced Plasma Source Ion-Assist chambers.
OptoSigma is actively investing in its
future to give the company greater visibility
in the domestic US and international distribution
by 2010.
“The philosophy behind the
successful growth of our
business has been communication.
We pride ourselves on
listening to what our customers
ask for. There are
many companies in our
industry who think that they
know what customers want
and manufacture products
only to find out that they
missed the mark. Our philosophy
is ... listen... and provide
the customer with
products that meet their
requirements and needs. By
providing people what they
are asking for, we create a
partnership that is long lasting
and mutually beneficial.”
Steve McNamee, COO
OptoSigma Corporation
OptoSigma has the expertise, manufacturing
resources and the desire to work
closely to determine and provide product to
the specifications necessary. The company’s
optical and mechanical engineers work with
customers throughout the design, development,
prototype and production process.
We fully enjoy this unique experience each
and every day.
