TMC Introduces STACIS LaserTable-Base For Optical Tops

Peabody, MA -- Technical Manufacturing Corporation (TMC) introduces STACIS® iX LaserTable-Base™, an active inertial vibration cancellation system for optical tables, at the 2010 Photonics West show today.

LaserTable-Base, the newest addition to TMC's family of STACIS® iX active piezoelectric vibration isolation products, is designed for applications such as interferometry, single- and multi-photon microscopy, scanning probe microscopy, and other highly vibration-sensitive experiments and instruments that require better vibration isolation than a traditional air system can provide.

Typically, optical tables are supported by low-frequency pneumatic vibration isolation systems. Though very effective at isolating high frequencies, these passive air systems actually amplify vibration in the critical 1 to 3 Hz range. TMC's patented STACIS technology overcomes these limitations by incorporating piezoelectric actuators and inertial vibration sensors to cancel – not amplify – vibration at very low frequencies. The two-tiered LaserTable-Base combines these two technologies, air and STACIS, into one integrated cancellation system.

The result is unprecedented levels of vibration isolation.

"TMC is pressing ahead with high-end vibration isolation products that achieve dramatically better performance," said Steve Ryan, TMC vice president, marketing. "The STACIS iX family improves upon the original STACIS® technology with the addition of extended travel piezoelectric actuators to accommodate even the worst floors and a design that uses fewer actuators, significantly lowering total cost."

TMC designs and manufactures precision vibration isolation systems for sensitive research and manufacturing processes worldwide. The ISO 9001:2008-certified company's products include active and passive vibration isolation systems; optical tops, optical table systems, and breadboards; laboratory tables and table top platforms; floor platforms; magnetic field cancellation and electric field shielding systems; and acoustic enclosures.
