New Wave Research was formed in 1990 to design, manufacture and market small, high performance solid state lasers for industrial, scientific, and OEM markets. The company has extensive design expertise in pulsed solid state lasers, optics and beam delivery systems.

The company's first product was a small, 1 Hz, air cooled, pulsed Nd:YAG laser originally marketed to the scientific community. It was later adapted for semiconductor failure analysis and introduced for use in mass spectroscopy. The product line was expanded in 1994 with the introduction of the MiniLase 10 and 20 Hz pulsed Nd:YAG lasers. The company's strategy is to develop and manufacture both higher performance and lower cost pulsed Nd:YAG laser systems for industrial, scientific and OEM customers.

The company's current OEM markets include semiconductor failure analysis, LCD repair, particle image velocimetry (PIV) and mass spectroscopy. Markets are addressed domestically directly and through US based OEMs; in Japan through its own office; and throughout Europe, and the balance of the Far East through distributors.
