IRphotonics Introduces Optical Fiber To Extend MID-IR Transmission Window

XTEND-FIBER™ Offers transmission from UV to 5.5 µm

Montreal, Canada — IRphotonics, a world-leading supplier of Mid Infrared Fluoride Fiber & Glass, introduced today a new extended window multimode fiber that stretches the useful optical window well into the 5 µm region. By using a proprietary chemical composition and its patented manufacturing process, the optical window can be extended by more than 1,000 nm in the MID-IR optical region of the spectrum compared to the company's other fibers. The XTEND-FiBER™ offers a smooth spectral response from 300 to 5,500 nm.

Although optimized for the MID infrared window, IRphotonic's XTEND-FiBER™ can also transmit in the UV, VIS and NIR part of the Optical Spectrum.

"Our customers have been demanding a low loss extended window MID-IR multimode fiber that could offer an extra 1,000 nm of spectral range without compromising, the high quality and performance that they have been used to." said Allan Schmitz, product line manager, multimode fiber. "After more than a year of development and functionality testing, we're confident that the XTEND-FiBER™ will meet those requirements."

IRphotonics' XTEND-FiBER™ will be unveiled at the Defense & Security Symposium in Kissimmee, Florida, March 28 to April 1st, booth 1305.
