Optical market grows 14% in 2Q00 according to Dell'Oro
The total optical telecommunications market grew to $5,937 billion in the second quarter of 2000—a quarter-to-quarter increase of 14%—says a study by the Dell'Oro group (Portola Valley, California). The figures included long haul DWDM, metropolitan area DWDM, and SONET/SDH.

Buoyed by sales of the Optera LH product, Nortel revenues jumped 34%. Other vendors showing overall significant Q/Q growth in the optical market were Ciena and Cisco with 28% and 53% growth respectively (see Table 1).

The metropolitan area DWDM market grew 40% in the quarter, rising to $80.9 million. Again, Nortel posted top revenue numbers, more than double those posted by their nearest competitors. Ciena and ONI followed, with quarter-to-quarter growth of 73% and 160% respectively (see Table 2). OC-48 continues to be the most popular speed shipped.
