High Power Laser In Eye Safe Wavelengths For Targeting Applications

Princeton Lightwave announces the launch of a high power, eye-safe, pulsed laser source (PML-250) for night-vision illuminators, pointers and designators. It utilizes a high power, broad area laser chip with a single 100 mm stripe. The laser is packaged in a TO-39 package with a back facet monitor photodiode. The laser chip utilizes a proprietary MQW laser structure for high power and reliability.
Under typical pulse operating conditions of 30 Hz, 25% duty cycle, and a 40° C case temperature, the laser can deliver 800 mW of power. CW power is 225 mW. The operating wavelength at this temperature is 1530 nm, with typical drive currents of 3.5 A. The laser has excellent far-field performance of 11 degrees FWHM fast-axis divergence (in the plane of the laser stripe) and 37 degrees FWHM slow-axis divergence (perpendicular to the laser stripe).
