Northrop Grumman Business Unit Introduces Golden Bullet - High Power Diode Laser Packaging Technology
St. Charles, MO Northrop Grumman Corporation has expanded its line of high power diode components with the release of the Golden Bullet product family.
Cutting Edge Optronics, Inc. (CEO), a business unit of Northrop Grumman's Space Technology sector, said the new diode laser packages feature proprietary expansion matched materials and the use of hard solder making them ideally suited for operation in demanding (> 500 microsecond long) pulsed laser applications.
"Our Golden Bullet diode laser products represent a major stride forward in diode laser packaging technology," said David Jones, CEO's Director of Sales and Marketing. "They're able to operate reliably during long pulse operation even at high (> 50deg C) temperatures. After thousands of hours of testing, our Golden Bullet packages have shown no sign of solder ‘creep' or solder migration onto the diode laser facets that is a typical failure mechanism for traditional (indium based) high power diode laser package designs in long pulse applications.'
The new high power components are offered on more than 150 standard diode heat sink designs (including G, A, AA, W2, E1, E2 and CS packages) and feature long life diode bars with CW and QCW power ratings of > 100 Watts.
Cutting Edge Optronics designs and manufactures high-power, diode-pumped, solid-state lasers, laser diodes and arrays for military and commercial applications. The business unit's components have been integral to Northrop Grumman Space Technology's high-power, high beam quality military laser system designs. It is based in St. Charles, Mo., with worldwide distributors serving Europe, Asia and Australia.
Northrop Grumman Space Technology is developing high-energy laser systems for ground, sea, air and space applications. Space Technology develops a broad range of systems at the leading edge of space, defense and electronics technology. The sector creates products for U.S. government and commercial customers that contribute significantly to the nation's security and leadership in science and technology.
