Triangle Leads Financing For Laser Technology Company Klastech

German laser start-up Klastech receives €2.1 million in a Series A funding round

Klastech Karpushko Laser Technology GmbH started operating in 2006 based on the results of the work of Prof. Fedor Karpushko, a leading scientist with more than 30 years of international experience in photonic research. Klastech develops, manufactures and markets proprietary diode pumped solid state (DPSS) lasers used, among other things, in equipment for semiconductor production, pharmaceutical industries and in scientific applications.

The proprietary optical design results in a substantial reduction in the complexity of conventional lasers. This not only delivers a breakthrough in beam quality that opens up many new application areas, but also enables the laser to be manufactured in an industrial process instead of using the more traditional craft production method. The result is outstanding quality accompanied by an extremely competitive price. Thanks to its superior technology, Klastech intend to fully replace argon ion and helium- cadmium lasers in their existing applications.

"The Klastech team is outstanding - their approach proves again that sometimes simple but smart ideas lead to powerful products, which disrupt existing markets. Proper execution is now the key to capturing a significant share of the laser market", says Triangle partner Soeren Schuster.

The company will use the proceeds from the funding round to build up international sales and marketing and expand its product portfolio.

Triangle focuses exclusively on university and research spin-offs and is currently the only VC to do so in Germany. The funding for Klastech is Triangle's second investment out of its recent Fund IV.
