Stereolithography For Additive Manufacturing

Source: Protolabs, Inc.
Stereolithography (SL)

Of all of Proto Labs additive manufacturing services, stereolithography (SL) offers the widest selection of available materials, the best feature resolution, and the smoothest surface finish. This industrial 3D printing process is used to create concept models, cosmetic prototypes, and complex parts with intricate geometries in as fast as one day.

Stereolithography uses a UV laser focused to a precise point in order to draw on the surface of a liquid thermoset resin. The liquid eventually turns to a solid at the point of the draw. This technique is repeated in thin, two-dimensional cross-sections layered to form three-dimensional parts. SL is especially ideal for very small parts with complex geometries in a product’s early prototyping phase.
