SPIE Posts Merger Survey Results

In the face of the proposed merger between SPIE and the Optical Society of America (OSA), the two organizations contracted with an independent firm to conduct a member opinion survey. According to the survey, a majority of SPIE and OSA members (more than 62%) currently support unification, a minority (approximately 12%) oppose it, and the remainder are undecided.

"It is vitally important we all become well informed on the proposed unification, providing our ideas to improve the unification design, and preparing ourselves for a possible membership vote later this summer," says SPIE president Paul Schenker, addressing the need for members to review the survey and the task force proposal.
