Imec will announce a new European H2020 project targeting mobile early-stage cardiovascular disease diagnosis and monitoring, building on the succesfull results of the H2020 project CARDIS which ended in Jan 2019.

  • Imec will showcase three important novelties in its hyperspectral imaging portfolio, bringing hyperspectral capabilities outside the lab and manufacturing environment: a mobile version of its SNAPSCAN hyperspectral camera in the visible & near infrared range (VNIR); a video-rate snapshot hyperspectral camera in the short-wave infrared (SWIR) spectrum; and a new hyperspectral imaging technology platform dedicated to unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).

  • Imec and Genalyte Inc are collaborating on disposable silicon-photonics biosensor chips to be used in Genalyte’s diagnostic and molecular detection equipment. The chips combine imec’s standard silicon photonic waveguide devices with bio-compatible modifications jointly developed by imec and Genalyte. These chips allow for high levels of multiplexed biosensing due to the high integration level of Si photonics.

For almost a decade, imec and Genalyte have teamed up in the research, development and production of disposable silicon-photonics biosensor chips to be used in Genalyte’s diagnostic and molecular detection equipment. The chips combine imec’s standard silicon photonic waveguide devices with bio-compatible modifications jointly developed by imec and Genalyte. These chips allow for high levels of multiplexed biosensing due to the high integration level of Si photonics.

The Si-photonics biosensor chips were realized at imec, as one of imec’s innovation services and solutions. The dedicated chips were developed from imec’s silicon photonics platform, which allows for miniaturization of complex photonic functions on a single chip and a dense integration of photonics and electronics.

A bio-compatible passivation technology was developed on 200mm waferscale, the chips were tested in the field, and proven to meet Genalyte’s functional requirements with high yields. The chips contain up to 128 proprietary ring resonator sensors coated by Genalyte with application-specific chemistry to create very sensitive molecular detection capability. The main specs that drive hyperspectral imaging are: form factor (mobile, light weight), broad-spectrum capabilities (Vis, NIR, SWIR..) and image quality (resolution, frame-rate). Imec now demonstrates significant improvements in all three domains. The breakthroughs are an almost logical next step in imec’s recent history of groundbreaking hyperspectral-imaging innovations it has brought directly to the market. To name just a few examples, imec currently has 8 dedicated chipsets and 13 camera-based solutions directly on offer, as well as the necessary software. Also, imec’s teams deliver design-on-demand solutions for process optimization at its customers, including integration with other relevant technologies.
