The U.S. Senate reported in 2016 that some medical scope designs can be linked to numerous superbug (antibiotic-resistant bacteria) infections since some parts of medical scopes are very difficult to sterilize without destroying crucial components. In an effort to eliminate the potential for these medical scope-transmitted deadly superbug infections, medical device makers are now offering new “disposable”, single-use endoscopes to eliminate dangerous bacteria.

SCHOTT North America, Inc., - Lighting and Imaging offers a variety of illumination components for the single-use endoscope market. This includes a camera fitted fiber with a beam angle up to 120 degrees, Plug and Play availability as just light or light and camera combination, and small compact light sources which can be integrated into the unit with a perfect fit.
