Modular LED Test System Provides Spectral Measurement Of Devices, Arrays, And Assemblies

spedmund

Edmund Optics (EO), a provider of optical components and tools, recently announced the availability of its MLED modular LED test and measurement system. Available in three configurations for discrete LEDs, arrays, and assemblies, MLED test systems offer complete spectral measurements in compliance with CIE-127 design requirements. Data acquisition through the built-in USB port provides spectral, color, power, lumens, purity, and peak dominant wavelength information.

The MLED base system consists of a 2048-element CCD spectrometer, an internal calibration lamp with power supply, and a set of three calibrated neutral density filters to extend the system's dynamic range. The unit also includes a Condition B intensity tube for ILEDB, 10 cm (0.01sr) CIE-compliant measurement of luminous intensity, spectral intensity, and all derived colorimetric information. The calibration lamp, traceable to NIST standards, is characterized for spectral flux and provides users with a simple, in-house method for system recalibration.

The CCD spectrometer uses a 2048-element CCD array and offers a resolution of 1.5 nm with 0.5 nm accuracy over a range of 350 to 1000 nm. The detector is capable of measuring luminous flux to 200 lumens using the OD2 filter and measuring luminous intensity using the Condition B tube. Exposure time ranges from 5 ms to 3 sec and stray light is 0.05% at 600 nm. LED socket holders, sold separately, are required for making intensity measurements.

The base unit (MLED-2) includes a 2-inch diameter integrating sphere with ½-inch diameter input port for making measurements on discrete devices. The MLED-6 system included the MLED-2 along with a 6-inch integrating sphere assembly to which the base unit mounts. The MLED-6 is used for intensity measurements of high-power LEDs and for flux measurements of LED assemblies up to 1.5 inches in diameter and is designed for external mounting of samples.

The MLED-12 system consists of the MLED-2 base and a 12-inch integrating sphere with 4-inch diameter port. The sphere includes a pre-wired post with sample holder that can connect with the user's power supply to power internally mounted samples. Samples can also be placed externally at the sphere's port. The MLED-12 is ideal for flux measurements of larger LED assemblies and arrays.
