Lightwave Microsystems Raises $48 Million in Venture Cap Funding Round

N/Aoptical component supplier <%=company%> Corp. (San Jose, CA) has secured a fourth round of financing totaling $48 million. The capital is targeted for manufacturing expansion and the acceleration of new product development. This round adds to the $36 million Lightwave Microsystems has raised in previous rounds, bringing the total investment to $84 million.

The round was led by Chase H&Q, a division of Chase Securities Inc. followed by Meritech Capital Ventures, and supported by Lightwave Microsystems' existing investors including Bessemer Ventures, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Information Technology Ventures, Morgenthaler Ventures, Oak Investment Partners, Weiss Peck & Greer Ventures, Worldview Technology, First Analysis of Chicago, and Comdisco.

The company focuses on developing planar lightwave circuits that integrate multiple functions together on a substrate, for applications such as dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM). The fabrication techniques use semi-conductor manufacturing techniques incorporating silica and polymer waveguide technology.
