ELCAN Optical Technologies has been awarded a $180M indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract for the procurement, delivery, maintenance, and logistical support of the Medium Range Thermal Biocular (MRTB) by the U.S. Navy. This contract was competitively procured with proposals solicited via the Navy Electronic Commerce Online, with five offers received. The Marine Corps Systems Command, Quantico, Va., is the contracting activity.
The new Marine Corps' MRTB is capable of providing individual thermal imaging capability to the Marine Rifle Squad, Machine Gun Squad, and other Marine Corps units, engaging in offensive and defensive operations. The Navy task order will deliver several thousand ELCAN systems over the course of the contract. Work will be performed in Richardson, Texas, and is expected to be completed by Jan. 2014.
Paul Klocek, General Manager of ELCAN Texas, states: "We are very excited to have been chosen by USMC for this critically important product. ELCAN has had great success with the PhantomIR product line with the U.S. Army. The PhantomIRxr model is the next generation product incorporating state-of-the-art detector technology, additional functionality and lessons learned during combat operations. This ELCAN innovation is the result of our commitment to understanding the warfighter's needs and striving to exceed them which has been driven by our Business Development Manager, Clay Towery. We are proud to be supporting the Marine Corps with this new capability that will provide our Marines a key advantage on the battlefield."
The U.S. Marine Corps' Medium Range Thermal Bi-Ocular (MRTB) is based on the battle proven ELCAN commercial off-the-shelf PhantomIR already in service with the U.S. Army and other elite fighting forces. The U.S.M.C. MRTB features product upgrades including the latest Raytheon Vision Systems IR detector technology, a dual-mode infrared laser marker, image & video recording capability, plus precision ELCAN optics providing extended range performance.
"ELCAN is proud that its PhantomIRxr has been chosen by the US Marines for their critical MRTB program. The PhantomIRxr was developed by our team of dedicated professionals to match the stringent requirements of the Marine Corps. The hard work, customer-focus and commitment to product performance excellence by our Richardson team have resulted in this successful outcome for ELCAN. More importantly, PhantomIRxr will provide the Marines with a powerful new force-multiplying advantage in the war on terror," said Dr. Joseph DeRemigis, President and Chief Executive of ELCAN.
