Helios Laser Power Meter For Industrial Automation
Helios Laser Power Meter For Industrial Automation

The Helios is a compact, precision laser power meter designed specifically for the measurement of high power lasers in industrial processing applications. It measures an array of high power solid state lasers such as diode, fiber, and YAG lasers with powers ranging from 100 W to 12 kW and energies ranging from 10 J to 10 kJ. This device operates by measuring the energy and exposure time of a short 0.1 to 10 second exposure of the laser, and then calculates the power.

TECHNICAL ARTICLES

  • Direct Imaging Of Shale Gas Leaks Using Passive Thermal Infrared Hyperspectral Imaging

Many types of natural gas from shale formations, including methane (CH4), are odorless, colorless, highly flammable, and leaks/emanations are important considerations for safety and the environment. Telops has recently launched the Hyper-Cam Methane, a field-deployable thermal infrared hyperspectral camera specially tuned for detecting methane infrared spectral features under ambient conditions and over large distances. This application note illustrates the benefits of using this imager a site where shale gas leaks unexpectedly happened during a geological survey near the Enfant-Jesus hospital in Quebec City, Canada, during December 2014.

  • Hyperspectral Imaging Reveals New Information For Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

The human eye is an important instrument for gathering information about the world, but it has limitations and obviously varies from person to person. It sees only over a particular range of wavelengths and has a limited ability to distinguish very similar colors. Hyperspectral imaging technologies provide a solution for overcoming these limitations, revealing data that the eye alone cannot capture. This article presents and discusses the new information that hyperspectral imaging brings to unmnanned aerial vehicles.

  • Short-Wave Infrared Adaptive Optics And Applications

Adaptive optics (AO) is a technique used to measure wavefront errors or distortions in imaging, and to correct resulting images in real time. This article introduces adaptive optics and focuses on the benefits of using (short-wave) infrared cameras in wavefront sensing for key applications, including astronomy, laser communication, biological imaging microcopy, and retinal imaging in combination with optical coherence tomography. It also covers the fundamental performance characteristics of SWIR cameras used in adaptive optics applications.

  • Behind The Curtain: Developing The First Laser Based On Bound States In The Continuum (BIC)

In 1929, soon after the birth of quantum mechanics, physicists John von Neumann and Eugene Wigner predicted that certain wave states are able to remain perfectly confined, or bound, in an open system. Nearly a century later, this wave physics phenomenon, otherwise called bound states in the continuum (BIC), has been demonstrated by a group of researchers at the University of California (UC) in San Diego in the form of the world’s first BIC laser. This Q&A discusses the design process and unique features of this lasing technology, as well as future steps in making BIC lasers electrically powered and how long it might take to build a BIC laser to the desired specifications.
