Ion Optics started in 1994 with a vision to leverage its expertise in ion beam technology into developing new sensor products. Funded by government grants, Ion Optics developed its first product in 1995, the pulsIR infrared emitter, based on a proprietary technology for customizing the filament surface to optimize its infrared emission for use in infrared gas sensors.

Through the early success of the pulsIR product line and the award of several government grants to develop sensor systems, Ion Optics expanded its capabilities into new technologies as well as into product manufacturing. Today, Ion Optics occupies a facility with 7500 square feet of design and manufacturing space. In addition to its expertise in ion technology, Ion Optics has personnel with expertise in optical engineering, mechanical packaging, electronics design, process development, and manufacturing engineering.
