Technology Thought Leaders To Headline Sensors Expo & Conference

Steve Squyres, Ph.D., Mars Exploration Rover Project, and Gregory W. Withee, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to Deliver Keynote Addresses

Newton, MA — Questex Media Group, Inc. recently announced that Dr. Steve Squyres, the principal investigator for the science payload on the Mars Exploration Rover Project (MER), and Gregory W. Withee, Senior Advisor to the Office of the Administrator, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), will present keynote addresses at the Sensors Expo & Conference, taking place June 11-13, 2007 in Rosemont, IL.

The Sensors Expo & Conference is the leading event in North America focused exclusively on sensors and sensor-integrated systems. Featuring an information-rich conference program as well as an exhibit hall showcasing state-of-the-art sensing technologies, this year's event is designed to help attendees understand and utilize the latest advances in measurement, monitoring, detection and control.

Squyres' presentation, "Roving Mars: Spirit, Opportunity and the Exploration of the Red Planet," will take place on Tuesday, June 12 at 9:00 a.m. His talk will provide up-to-the-minute analysis on the Spirit and Opportunity missions, from their initial conception through their development, launch, landing, and continuing operation on the surface of Mars.

A Goldwin Smith Professor of Astronomy at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, Squyres is the principal investigator for the science payload on the MER Project. Squyres' main areas of scientific interest have been Mars and the moons of the outer planets. He is best known for his study of the history and distribution of water on Mars as well as his research on the possible existence and habitability of a liquid water ocean on Europa.

Withee's presentation, "Sensing the Health of the Planet through the Global Earth Observation System of Systems," will take place on Wednesday, June 13 at 9:00 a.m. Withee will discuss the vision of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) to enable a healthy public, economy and planet through an integrated, comprehensive and sustained Earth observation system of systems. Attendees will learn how GEOSS will link existing satellite, buoys, weather stations and future observation instruments positioned around the globe to gauge the "pulse" of the planet.

Withee is the Senior Advisor to the Office of the Administrator for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). He leads the U.S. civil operational environmental satellite programs which supply the nation's weather and environmental satellite data, and also leads three national environmental data centers, which archive and make accessible climate, ocean, and geophysical data and products. He is the author of more than 100 publications and reports and has received numerous awards, including the Presidential Distinguish Rank Award for extraordinary performance in the Senior Executive Service.

"For over 20 years, we have brought together scientists, academic experts, and manufacturers of sensing products and systems to present the state-of-the-art and current trends for this important industry to OEMs and end-users. Again this year we are offering an incredible amount of technological, scientific and marketing knowledge and expertise," said Debra Brown, Event Director, Sensors Expo & Conference. "It is particularly exciting for us to have Steve Squyres and Gregory Withee as our keynote speakers. Their varied experiences in the use of these complex technologies highlight the seemingly boundless future of the sensing industry. Together, they illustrate that yesterday's science fiction is today's reality, and that the sky is literally the limit when examining the future."

Keynote sessions are free to all Sensors Expo & Conference attendees. For additional information or to register, go to: www.sensorsexpo.com or call 800-748-5045.
