RSoft Announces Mixed-Level Simulation Technology For Designing VCSELS And Next-Generation Optical Systems

New Software Platform Created for Networking and Telecommunications Industry Through Collaboration with Agilent Technologies

Ossining, NY -- RSoft Design Group, Inc., the global leader in photonics simulation software, today announced a new mixed-level simulation software tool technology created through collaboration with Agilent Technologies Inc., the world's largest manufacturer of fiber optic transceiver modules.

RSoft's design engagement with Agilent Technologies' Fiber Optic Products Division produced a new tool platform that allows direct extraction of VCSEL (vertical cavity surface emitting laser) parameters from one level to the next. The software was created by interfacing RSoft's system level OptSim 4.0 and active device level LaserMOD 2.0 simulation platforms. Designers can now simulate new devices, examine their performance in a system, and export equivalent circuit models for use with SPICE3, PSpice, ADS, Virtuoso Spectre, and Hspice without the costly delay of calibrating and fitting incompatible models.

This comprehensive design and simulation solution meets Agilent's stringent requirements for an end-to-end design flow for VCSELs and VCSEL-based optical interconnect solutions. By using RSoft's software, Agilent is able to speed up its design cycles, make its products more robust, and reduce development costs. Agilent is using this advanced design flow for its semiconductor lasers, integrated circuits, and systems that will be used in next-generation 10 Gb/s optical interconnect solutions.

"Our advanced optical transceiver technology requires the optimization of the VCSEL device designs together with the integrated circuit and system design, said Chris Kocot, master scientist for Agilent's Fiber Optic Products Division in the Semiconductor Products Group. RSoft is the only company that offers a simulation solution to address our design flow requirements across these different domains."

"We have a long history of working with Agilent Technologies to meet their simulation and design requirements and those of their customers, said Robert Scarmozzino, CTO of RSoft. We are excited to be collaborating with them again to address their mixed-level design flow requirements for optical interconnect products. This fits well with our vision for an integrated design flow across both the photonic and electronic domains."

RSoft Design Group will be exhibiting their software at Photonic West in San Jose, January 25-27, 2005, booth# 5032.
