Next Generation IR Technologies Solve High Speed Automotive Testing Challenges

Source: Teledyne FLIR

Without appropriate tools for thermal measurements and testing of automobile parts, automotive design engineers can lose time and efficiency, and risk missing defects that lead to dangers and expensive recalls. Unfortunately, traditional forms of contact temperature measurement are not practical to mount on moving objects. Non-contact forms of measurement are not fast enough to stop motion on high speed targets and cannot take accurate temperature measurements. This application note discusses the need for cooled thermal cameras with short exposure times for these types of measurements. Download the full paper for information on the difference between thermal and quantum detectors, and the benefits of using cooled thermal cameras for accurately tracking temperature shifts over time on high speed applications.
