In addition to standard laser optics such as laser mirrors, beam splitters, output couplers etc., LASER COMPONENTS manufactures a number of special optics. One example is Gaussian mirrors or VRM (variable reflecting mirrors), of which the reflectivity alters, with regard to the location on the mirror. LASER COMPONENTS is one of the few suppliers world-wide, who manufactures such special mirror types. The mirrors are applied in unstable resonators, where they aid in the formation of a high-quality laser beam with low beam divergence at high pulse energy. In frequency doubled systems, they are used in the generation of higher pump efficiency. Our Gaussian mirrors are characterized by high laser stability and are thus suitable for maximum performance. Standard mirrors include 1064, 755, 1030, and 1315 nm. Other wavelengths are available upon request.

The maximum reflectivity (R0) decreases exponentially to 0 with increasing distance to the center. The formula for the reflection profile is as follows:

R(r) = R0 exp [ -2 (r/w) n ]

The parameters are as follows:

  • R0 = Max. Reflectivity
  • w = Lateral Dimension (where reflectivity dropped to R0/e2)
  • n = Gaussian Order.

A detailed data sheet on the Gaussian mirrors is available as a download here or we will gladly send one on request. Our specialists are available for consultation and for the preparation of your quotation.

LASER COMPONENTS is specialized in the development, manufacture, and sale of components and services for the laser and opto-electronics industries. With sales offices in four different countries, the company has served its customers since 1982. In-house production at six locations in Germany, Canada, and the USA began in 1986 and is meanwhile responsible for about half of its turnover. Currently, the family-run business employs more than 120 people worldwide.
