SWIR vs. Visible Imaging Demos
Joel Bagwell, R&D manager with Edmund Optics, conducts two demonstrations with shortwave infrared imaging (SWIR). The first compares images of a silicon wafer, which is reflective in the visible and completely transparent in the SWIR. In the second, he simulates a machine vision-type application, using SWIR to make a detergent bottle appear transparent, whereas it is completely opaque in the visible.

Introduction To High Angular Resolution Radiance Detectors
Bill Evelyn of Excelitas Technologies introduces us to HARLID, the company's High Angular Resolution Radiance Detector technology. When HARLID is installed on a high-value military asset — such as a tank, helicopter, fixed-wing aircraft, or even a ship — it determines whether a laser is irradiating the vehicle, and from what angle the beam originated.

Night Vision Display Test System Demo
Alex Fong, senior VP of life sciences and instrumentation with Gooch & Housego, demonstrates the OL 770-NVS Night Vision Display Test and Measurement System for NVIS-compatible displays. The system is comprised of two main elements: the company's OL 770-NVS spectroradiometer and an OL620 imaging telescope.

Laser Power Beaming Demo
Tom Nugent, president of LaserMotive, shows us an example of his company's laser power beaming technology, which transmits energy with lasers instead of wires. The demo involves a micro-helicopter flying with no batteries on board, which can fly all day long without ever needing to land.

Defined Viewing Angle Fiber Optic Faceplate Demo
Scott Heather, defense business manager for SCHOTT North America Lighting and Imaging, demonstrates the new defined viewing angle fiber optic faceplate on a digital display out of the F-22 Raptor aircraft. The display directs its light directly at the pilot's head box and completely eliminates the light signature of canopy reflections.
