4 Electronic Design Requirements Of The System-Integrated Soldier

Perhaps most famously portrayed in Robert Heinlein’s Starship Troopers (1959), the idea of the “future soldier” has been around for decades. As rehashed in countless science fiction films and video games, the stereotypical future soldier is equipped with a protective exoskeleton, enhanced sensory equipment, seamless communication systems, and advanced weaponry. While the concept once seemed implausible, there are many real-world projects under way focused on realizing those seemingly fictitious warfighter capabilities — by integrating a plethora of diverse electronic subsystems into a cohesively operational suit.

  • Camera Requirements For 3D Metrology

As the objects to inspect/measure in high-tech manufacturing become smaller, higher-resolution cameras with better spatial resolution can improve accuracy and precision. This does require a high-quality machine vision camera design, however, or what is now called a metrology camera. 3D measurements in particular pose increasing demands on camera performance and reliability. This article discusses critical parameters, depending on the specific measurement.

  • Facilitating NIR-II And SWIR Imaging For Drug Discovery And Research Applications

The extension of in vivo optical imaging for disease screening and image-guided surgical interventions requires brightly emitting, tissue-specific materials that optically transmit through living tissue and can be imaged with portable systems that display data in real-time.

  • Passive Electro-Optical Counter-Countermeasures (EOCCM)

As laser countermeasures proliferate around the world, infantry, aircrews, and electro-optic sensors are at risk of being engaged with little to no warning. A laser countermeasure can adversely affect targeting and navigation functions by jamming or 'spoofing' the sensor through laser illumination or by damaging the sensor through more intense laser illumination. The laser can also be used to detect and track an otherwise covert electro-optic target by sensing retro-reflections off the target’s optics. This article provides a background on traditional protection technologies and explains how electro-optic counter-countermeasures (EOCCMs) can help mitigate the damage that can be inflicted on optical and electro-optical sights.
