  • Advances In CMOS Image Sensors And Associated Processing: Part 2

    Part 2 of the series describing advancements in CMOS sensors and processing focuses on a new Super 35 mm CMOS image sensor that is specifically developed to support origination of High Dynamic Range (HDR) motion imagery. Another development is two separate photodiodes within each photosite that is essential for achieving the 15-stop dynamic range, and supports a unique in-sensor phase detection strategy that closed a focus control loop around the cine lens.

  • Advancing Microfluidics Research Using High-Speed Cameras

    Microfluidics research involves controlling and studying small amounts of liquid, often confined to channels that are as small as only tens of microns wide. With a consistently growing field of microfluidic applications, high-speed camera systems are utilized for accurate analysis of the quickly changing micro scale fluid dynamics. A typical microfluidic experiment requires camera speeds ranging from 3,000 to 25,000 fps and may be captured in an elongated aspect ratio image. This aspect ratio allows for reduced resolutions and increased camera speed with CMOS sensors used in high-speed video cameras. This article discusses using high-speed cameras for microfluidic data acquisition by delivering images with little noise that easily integrate with image analysis software.

    New Type II Strained Layer Superlattice (SLS) detector materials from FLIR may be the high performance, lower cost solution researchers are looking for. By offering shorter integration times, wider temperature ranges, better uniformity, stability, and price, these materials are an ideal solution to consider over MWIR InSb and LWIR MCT materials, and are much cheaper than current LWIR MCT cameras.

  • Challenges And Solutions For High Performance SWIR Lens Designs

    The current pace of Gooch & Housego's development of affordable high performance SWIR cameras does not match their pace of developing affordable high performance SWIR lenses. As a result, lower image quality is more likely to stem from the lens rather than the camera. This article discusses the technical challenges of creating compatible lenses that deliver high image quality and transmission across the full extent of the SWIR band at a much cheaper cost.
