PD-LD Awarded New Patent For VBG Technology Expansion

December 29, 2009

PD-LD, Inc., the worldwide leader in Volume Bragg Grating (VBG) technology, was recently awarded a U.S. patent for new apparatus and methods that will enable simplified and more efficient stabilization of laser diodes. The invention uses VBG technology to alter one or more output characteristics of light-emitting devices, such as lasers, laser diodes, light-emitting diodes, etc.

U.S. Patent No. 7,633,985 builds on other patents secured by PD-LD to improve the technology already widely used in Raman Spectroscopy, laser pumping and fiber optic communications. It provides unique methods of modifying or conditioning spectral emissions of lasers. What differentiates this particular patent is its encompassment of a different embodiment of optical elements which incorporate VBG technology, making the laser diode stabilization more efficient.

"This newly issued patent brings the number of patents granted to PD-LD to 14, attesting to our leading role in the VBG field," said Dr. Vladimir Ban, PD-LD President and CEO. "By building on our previous advances, we are able to extend this technology into an ever-growing number of industries and applications."
