German Chancellor Angela Merkel to speak at opening ceremony on 24 March / 600 exhibitors coming from all over the world / Congress opening ceremony with Prof. Klaus Töpfer
If prominent guests are anything to go by, then INTERVITIS INTERFRUCTA 2010 will be, without a doubt, the global highlight of the viticulture year. The trade fair for the wine, fruit, fruit juice and spirits industry will welcome German Chancellor Angela Merkel to the event on 24 March as guest speaker at the IVIF opening evening. Present at the opening of the IVIF Congress that morning will be President of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), Yves Bénard, along with Mireia Torres from the Catalonian wine emporium of the same name and Prof. Klaus Töpfer, former Head of the United Nations Environment Programme and today Founding Director of the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies. The German Winegrowers' Association (DWV), together with partner organisations of the wine, fruit, fruit juice and spirits industry, as well as the IVIF congress, all stand behind the same motto: "Quality, sustainability, market: Driving forces for innovation".
INTERVITIS INTERFRUCTA 2010 will be taking place from 24 to 28 March for the first time in the new Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre beside Stuttgart Airport. The DWV and Messe Stuttgart are expecting around 600 exhibitors and 40,000 specialist visitors from all over the world to attend the event. A colourful selection of exhibitors includes Agco, Alcan, Amorim, BASF, Begerow, Bucher Vaslin, Claas, Clemens, Dexheimer, Defranceschi, Della Toffola, Erbslöh, EuroCave, Filtrox, GEA, Westfalia, Grégoire, KHS, Krones, Max Holder, Nomacork, New Holland, Pall, Pellenc, Radix, Rieger, Robino&Galandrino, Sartorius, Scharfenberger, Speidel, TMCI Padovan, Tonnellerie Radoux, Velo, Viking, Voestalpine, ZG Raiffeisen, Zork and Zwiesel Kristallglas. "At IVIF 2010", explains Messe Stuttgart's Managing Director Ulrich Kromer, "we have the entire process chain for wine, fruit, fruit juice and spirits production; something you won't see anywhere else."
There will be an international representation of well over 30 percent with exhibitors coming from at least 28 countries. The largest group is from Italy, followed by France, Austria, Switzerland and Slovenia, while newcomers to the event this year will include the Czech Republic, India, South Africa and Serbia. A total of 60,000 square metres of exhibition space is set to be occupied. Along with the 600 exhibitors, companies showcasing individual products will also be represented at the trade fair, pushing the IVIF exhibitor figure up to almost 700.
A change to this year's exhibition will see the much-loved machine demonstrations moved inside to Hall 9. Regardless of Stuttgart's weather, audiences will have the opportunity to marvel at machine and product demonstrations from the Cultivation and Harvesting Technology area every day at 2pm. The new larger grounds also means that there are more places available in the stands too. This is where visitors can find out about the latest developments in new plot cultivation, tree and vine work, soil cultivation, plant protection and care, as well as harvesting machinery and accessories. The equipment is mounted to the rear, centre and front of the latest tractors on the market; how it all works, as well as the special features of the individual machines, will be explained by the show's host as the machines demonstrate on the trade fair's very own vine rows.
The new Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre, which opened in the autumn of 2007, is for many not only the most modern but also the most impressive trade fair centre in Europe, providing both the perfect transport connections and a clear, simple layout. The exhibition area Cultivation and Harvesting Technology will be located in Hall 1 (L-Bank Forum), directly beside the East entrance. Here, for the first time, there will be a "Hail Protection" Pavilion, where manufacturers of nets and protective equipment will demonstrate their latest developments for the prevention of hailstone damage in fruit and wine growing. Furthermore, visitors can also find out about sponsorship opportunities in Baden-Württemberg for the building of new hail protection systems. And rounding off this comprehensive area will be the exhibition of mobile working platforms necessary for the construction of these systems. These working platforms are used, in addition to assembly work in fruit cultivation, for tree cutting, harvest work and other types of cultural work.
Both trade fair areas Processing&Process Control and Filling&Packaging Technology are to be found in Halls 3 and 5. Visitors particularly interested in Marketing&Organisation should head directly for Hall 7. There, in addition to the "Meeting of the Associations", will be the "Wine Lounge" with a presentation of all the German producing regions, as well as the adjacent catering area for guests. The German Wine Academy (DWA), together with the European umbrella organisation Comité Vins, will be presenting the European prevention campaign "WINEinMODERATION" at this stand; taking place parallel to this is the public symposium in the ICS International Congress Center Stuttgart on Friday, 26 March. Hall 7 will also be home to the universities and research institutes, as well as the special area Wine and Architecture. New and reconstructed projects will be presented during the forum, as will the winners of the architecture prize awarded by the Chamber of Architects of Rhineland-Palatinate.
Hall 7 will also play host to the INTERVITIS INTERFRUCTA 2010 wine tasting workshop, a feature which is sure to once again attract thousands of professionals from all over Europe. Does the taste betray the type of vine breeding carried out? Which sensory influences does the yeast have? What effect do the alcohol management measures, undertaken in the vineyard or cellar, have on the palate? There will be more than 250 wines available in the workshop to help you answer these questions! German schools and research institutes, the German Oenologists' Association and the Federal Institute for Grapevine Breeding have opened their cellars for this IVIF tasting workshop, providing a selection of limited-edition testing wines. All participants are guaranteed a sensory insight into the important research undertaken in the various wine-producing regions in Germany.
And, last but not least, the winners of the IVIF Innovation Prize will have their moment on stage in Hall 7 from 24 – 28 March. Out of 65 applications received from eight countries, "an international jury of representatives from both the scientific and practical side of the wine and fruit industry will be awarding prizes to 34 innovative ideas", explains DWV General Secretary Dr. Rudolf Nickenig. And on 24 March as part of the IVIF framework programme, the highly coveted gold, silver and special awards of INTERVITIS INTERFRUCTA 2010 will be ceremoniously awarded in the presence of German Chancellor Angela Merkel in the ICS International Congress Center Stuttgart. The international IVIF congress, to which alone approximately 1,500 experts from all continents are expected to attend, will address various themes, such as cultivation practices during climate change, new methods for the compilation of quality parameters, the sponsorship of steep slope and terraced vineyards, microorganisms and alcoholic fermentation, wine and tourism, ecological winegrowing and trends in grape and wine analysis.
For the first time, INTERVITIS INTERFRUCTA (24 – 28 March), as the world's leading technology trade fair for the production of wine, fruit, fruit juice and spirits, will be taking place in close cooperation with Düsseldorf's ProWein (21 – 23 March). The "Selection for Trade and Technology" is providing international wine producers with a unique opportunity to successfully market their wines at Düsseldorf's specialist trade fair for wines and spirits and to find out about the latest technology for wine production at IVIF all within the space of a week. Messe Düsseldorf, Messe Stuttgart and the German Winegrowers' Association have organised a number of global press conferences and presentations over the past few months to introduce this "joint venture" in March 2010 and have met with major interest the world over. Visitors are thus expected to come to IVIF from China, Russia, India, Romania, the Ukraine, Georgia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Great Britain, Chile, South Africa, Canada, the USA, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and Belgium.
